Have you come to a place in your spiritual life where you know for certain that if you were to die tonight that you would go to heaven?
The Bible says in 1 John 5:11-13,
"And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life."
Suppose you were to die tonight and stand before God and He were to say to you,
"why should I let you into my heaven?"
What would you say?
The Bible tells us in Proverbs 14:12,
"There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.
Now let's look at some specific Scriptures that tell us how to get to heaven"
Grace is God's mercy and forgiveness. We can think of it as God's Righteousness At Christ's Expense.
•Heaven is a free gift.
"For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves;
it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast."
•Heaven cannot be earned or deserved
"not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us,
through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit"
"for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,"
•Cannot save themselves
"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."
"Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire."
•Who He is
"Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.’"
•What He did
1 Peter 2:24,
"who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for
righteousness— by whose stripes you were healed."
•What it is NOT (It is not just believing there is a God)
"You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe and tremble!"
•What it is
"that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."
Does this make sense to you?
Would you like to receive the gift of eternal life?
To sum up the gospel, Jesus was born of a virgin and is fully God and fully man. He lived on this earth and experienced the same things we do, only He never sinned (He never disobeyed God's commands). Jesus died on the cross to pay the price for our sins. He substituted His life for our lives. [He takes away our sin and gives us His sinless perfection when we receive the gift of salvation] He was placed in a tomb and rose again physically after three days. He ascended up into heaven and He is preparing a home for us. He is coming back to earth some day to receive His people. Are you ready?
Pray a prayer of commitment like this:
Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I have done things I should not have done and that I do not deserve to go to heaven. Thank you for paying the "death penalty" for my wrongs on the cross. I believe that you are the risen Lord and that you are coming to earth again. Please forgive me of my sins, I turn from going my own way and I turn to you. Come intomy heart. Thank You for giving me the gift of eternal life in heaven and saving me from eternal condemnation in hell.
The Bible says that we are to confess Jesus publicly:
“Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven."
We are to follow our profession of salvation with believer's baptism:
"Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life."
We are to find a Bible believing church and become regular attenders / members:
"not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching."
